Etymology[]

The word "Helvetia" is the Latin name for Switzerland, derived from a Celtic tribe that occupied most of the Swiss plateau in the 1st century BC. It appeared as a name later for the Old Swiss Confederacy as "Republica Helvetiorum" ("Republic of the Helvetians") around the 17th and 18th century.

General Information[]

Location[]

Helvetia is shown to be around North East Asia, more specifically Japan, according to a map in the Episode 13 OVA. It borders the Roman Empire, the sea and the nation of Babylonia, which doesn't play a role in the anime.

Known History[]

At the start of the series, Helvetia has been at war with the Roman Empire for at least two years, likely more, but has been in an armistice for six months. It's royal family suffered the loss of Princess Illiya two years ago, who drowned while trying to save a child.

Government System[]

It is mentioned that Helvetia has a royal family, with Archduke Arkadia being the head. This suggests that Helvetia is a monarchy. The fact that Princess Iliya was supposed to marry the Roman Emperor to improve relations between the countries supports that, as marriages between royal families for such purposes are known to have been common in real monarchies.

Though there are no further hints, leaving the possibility of it being a constitutional monarchy or something else.

Speculation[]

No music: Could suggest fascist control, or cultural depreciation of music

Low recruitment age/girls in military: Suggests either desperation for recruits, relative legal equality of sex, or very militaristic state.
