Carl is an artisan who works at and owns the glass factory in Seize. Being one of the only five people in Helvetia to hold the title of "Meister", he took up the unusual challenge of helping Noël with copying an old era lens that is necessary to repair the Takemikazuchi.
At some point, he had a romantic relationship with Naomi. Their daughter, Maria is now his apprentice.
He's immense skill shows when he claims that he doesn't shape glass conciously, but that the "glass itself wants to become this shape". This advice he gives to Kanata suggests a passionate and caring personality that he apparently tries to hide. That shows when Maria's remarks about Naomi lead him to rudely tell her to get back to work.
