Overview[]
Kureha Suminoya is one of the main characters of Sora no Woto. Her father was a soldier who was wounded in action. While undergoing treatment at the field hospital, he met and fell in love with a nurse, whom he married. Shortly after Kureha was born, he died in combat. Several years later she and her mother had to flee their home because of the "Invisible Reaper", a biological weapon. After their arrival in Seize, the mother died, leaving Kureha as an orphan.
To continue her parents' legacy, she decided to join the military at a very young age. She was assigned to the 1121st platoon in Seize, where she serves as a gunner.
Appearance[]
Both the smallest and the youngest of the platoon, Kureha is 14 years old and roughly 150cm (=5') tall (exact figure unknown). She has brown eyes and long, black hair, which she usually ties into two twintails with pink ribbons.
Personality[]
Ever since she became an orphan, Kureha has been focused on working especially hard, so as to not fall behind anyone else. Thus, she takes military duty very seriously. However, because of the 1121st's remote and insignificant position, she struggles to cope with the absence of professionality. She is convinced that she needs to appear skilled and tough and always nervous others may take her for less than she is.
Upon Kanata joining the platoon, Kureha is initially very hostile which, in tune with her aforementioned behavior, makes her behave in a Tsundere-like manner. Her hostility mainly originates from her childish worry, Filicia and Rio could love her less because of the new member. That's because the two older platoon members frequently serve as almost motherly figures for the younger ones, who in turn look up to them. Despite her outward hostility, Kureha quickly befriends Kanata.
Apart from Filicia and Rio, Kureha has another idol, Klaus, whom she mistakes for the famous war-hero "Miracle Klaus".
Etymology[]
The surname Suminoya is written with the Kanji for "black ink" (Sumi - 墨), "wilderness" (no - 埜) and "valley" (ya - 谷). Kureha is written with the Kanji for "livelihood" (ku - 暮) and "feathers" (reha - 羽).
