Overview[]
Noël Kannagi is one of the main characters of Sora no Woto. Because of her interest in science and mechanical engineering she was sent to a special academy at a very young age. There she was reportedly the best student. Following that, she was recruited into a special team of experts who helped the military develop weapons, with a focus on reviving lost technology, such as biological weapons.
After her successful work there she presumably served at the Binnenland front during the Battle of Vingt-et-un. Sometime later she was assigned to the 1121st platoon as their mechanic and tank pilot.
Appearance[]
She has shoulder-long grey hair with bluish-grey eyes and is 153cm (=5') tall. Noël often wears a yellow scarf with her uniform and other outfits.
Personality[]
Noël is usually a reserved and quiet person who prefers working alone, as she often does overnight when repairing the Takemikazuchi. Moreover, she rarely shows emotions in front of others and struggles to socialize, keeping herself in the background of most situations. Despite that she apparently has good relations with the people of Seize, as seen in Episode 4.
Ever since she was young, Noël has loved science and machines. However, she started suffering from an immense inner conflict when her skills were used by the military to develop biological weapons, which caused thousands of deaths, at least three years prior to the story. Today she still suffers from PTSD, especially when confronted with her old nickname, "Witch of Helvetia". In the drama CD it is mentioned that she used to be even less talkative, basically refusing to speak at all. It is thanks to Rio and Filicia's kindness and care for her that she was able to partially recover and make friends.
Etymology[]
The surname Kannagi is written with the Kanji for "Cold" (Kan - 寒) and "calm" (nagi - 凪). Noël is written with the Kanji for "from" (No - 乃), "picture" (e - 絵) and "detain" (ru - 留). "Noël" also means "Christmas" in French.
